"Fair and equitable"

Just heard Councilwoman Kerwin claim during the broadcast of tonight's council meeting while lecturing that the people said, "Streamline." No one argues with that. But then she said, "We have to be fair and equitable with all our employees." I almost swallowed the lime in my gin & tonic. Really? So how can you support Option 1, the most unfair and inequitable approach to the current fiscal crisis?

For those that may have forgotten February 23, the people also said, overwhelmingly, "NO!" to Keep Troy Safe. Keep Troy Safe, the argument to avoid cuts in our fine police department, and it is a fine police department, staffed by fine people, lost. Badly. That means all departments should be on the table. All departments should share in the pain. Why are they in such deep denial about this?

Options 3 or Option 3A solve these dilemmas. It does in fact treat all employees fairly and equitably.

Hope you were watching the discussion about the privatization of the Building Department as well. Mark Stimac, I think, took a very bold stand by attempting to represent the employees working under him and bucking the chain of command. A lot of confusing numbers were being thrown around, and I don't know if privatization will ultimately be the best move, but you have to give Mark credit for throwing in with the employees and demonstrating the belief that there are more options than just cut, cut, cut.
It looked like John Szerlag was very surprised and visibly upset, even calling the discussion between Mark and the Council "insulting".
I'm wondering if Mark will be facing suspension or even termination for this move.

I give Mark a lot of credit for stating how he feels as a citizen. It is refreshing to see a dept. head stand up for his/her dept. Most seem too scared to rock the boat. It's interesting to see the true colors the city mgr and of our leadership both on payroll and council.

The City Mgr. seems to enjoy taking credit but if the waters get rough, he places the blame on council. Perhaps it's time to cut our losses before it gets worse. The mayor seems concerned wuth her legacy - she obviously is having difficulty expressing her feelings. For her to go from a strong quality of life advocate "to the people have spoken" is ridiculous. The people spoke based om misinformation. Ms Shilling needs to emphasize this, support the library abd work for the good of the future of Troy.
Perhaps the city should hire the lawyer who put Mr. Szerlag's contract together!

Ms Kerwin's greatest strength was her education and school board experience plus having been on the library friends board. How disappointing to see her take the easy way out also.

I don't always agree with Martin but at least he has the guts to ask difficult questions and is not afraid of being a lone vote if he feels it is the right thing to do.

Again, Mark needs to know that he is admired for his stand. Mr. Szerlag needs to get past his hurt feelings and take a second or even a third look at how to accomplish the best scenario for the city. If he can't see past "his" plan and ego then HE needs to resign ASAP.
